Announcing the 25th ICHPE Conference
The quality of health professions education serves as a foundational element for enhancing the overall quality of healthcare. Community-based health, epitomized by the widespread adoption of primary health care (PHC), stands out as a prominent symbol in this context, empowering the health system to respond effectively to societal needs. The increasing demand for training health service providers across all levels not only reinforces the alignment of educational roles but also imbues the system with the potential to enhance the quality of services.
Currently, universities of medical sciences are actively advancing human resources training. Concurrently, they are enhancing the responsiveness of health professions education through the implementation of "community-based education." This strategic approach seeks to customize comprehensive health centers to suitably address various educational levels. Furthermore, by adeptly integrating educational technologies, the overarching goal is to enhance and enrich students' learning experiences in the process.
We hope that this year's ICHPE-2024 conference, themed "Health Professions Education: From Classroom to Field" serves as a platform for sharing diverse experiences in this field. Through collaborative efforts of all experts and stakeholders, the conference aims to explore strategies for shaping and deepening the integration of health professions education and service. The ultimate goal is to achieve a more responsive health system while simultaneously optimizing education within the realm of health professions.
Abolfazl Bagherifard MD.
Chairman
25th ICHPE Conference
The field of health professions education has experienced substantial growth over the last century, with a notable surge in importance attributed to Abraham Flexner's influential report. Over the past four decades, a key driver of the evolution in health professions education has been the adoption of a socially accountable approach. This paradigm shift has elevated health professions education beyond a mere training ground for healthcare professionals, turning it into a dynamic force for instigating positive transformations in community health outcomes. In Iran, health professions education has experienced a four-decade period of expansion characterized by the implementation of various interventions. These initiatives encompass the empowerment of educators, the modification and enhancement of curricula, the introduction of innovative teaching methods, and a comprehensive evaluation of learners. Furthermore, a concerted effort has been made to nurture the academic growth of students, elevating the training of health professionals to the levels of master's and doctorate degrees.
This collaborative endeavor has propelled health professions education in Iran to a stage where a shared commitment to enhancing the quality of education is evident. This commitment is realized through the application of innovative knowledge and technology in medical education, the cultivation of networks, and the promotion of collaboration within the community of educators and educational professionals.
Hence, in the upcoming conference, our objective is to create a platform that encourages cooperation, constructive collaboration, and forward-thinking in the context of responsive education. This vision will materialize through a conceptual shift away from the traditional classroom setting to a more expansive arena, leveraging technology to tackle the diverse challenges related to educational efficiency across all positions within the realm of health professions education. Our emphasis is on optimizing the learning experiences of students, recognizing, and adapting to the evolving landscape of health professions education.
We earnestly hope to attain this significant goal with the grace of God and through your valued companionship and empathy.
Hourieh Mohammadikenari MD.
Secretary
25th ICHPE Conference
Nearly three decades have elapsed since the inception of the Iranian Conference on Health Professions Education (ICHPE), a cornerstone among the most substantial scientific events in our beloved country, Iran and in the region. While each subsequent conference has explored specific focal points, the spirit originally imbued in the inaugural gathering continues to serve as a guiding principle. This enduring essence centers on introducing and clarifying the pivotal role and significance of health professions education in delivering, preserving, and enhancing community health.
Certainly, any transformations in health professions education must align with the distinctive mission of accountable medical universities, primarily centered on enhancing community health. In the context of spatial planning, Macro-Region One proudly assumes the role of the scientific committee secretariat under auspices of the Education Development Center (EDC) of Ministry of Health and Medical Education for the 25th ICHPE Conference-2024, hosted at the center of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences.
The scientific committee secretariat of the conference, cognizant of the factors shaping the future of health professions education, has outlined the crucial focal points for this significant event. We sincerely hope that stakeholders committed to the qualitative advancement of health professions education, spanning from policymakers to educators and learners, will actively participate in impactful and efficient discussions by engaging with the themes presented at the conference.
