:: Introduction to events

After the establishment of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in 1985, the Education Development Center (EDC) was established in this ministry with a focus on human resources training and capable faculty members in the field of medical education in 1989. The center was established to improve the quality of medical education by holding workshops and publishing books and pamphlets.

In 1990, the Education Development Center merged with the Educational Planning and Studies Center, giving rise to a new entity titled the Medical Education Development and Studies Center. This newly established center took on the crucial responsibilities of policymaking, planning, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of educational activities. Subsequently, Education Development Centers (EDCs) were established in universities of medical sciences. Following this initiative, Education Development Offices (EDOs) were established in schools and teaching hospitals.

One of the primary initiatives undertaken by the Education Development Center (EDC) immediately after its establishment was organizing the inaugural national conference on medical education in 1994. The conference aimed to spotlight and elucidate the role and significance of education in ensuring, sustaining, and enhancing the quality of medical education.

To date, 24 national conferences on health professions education have been successfully conducted. Some of these conferences were organized through collaboration between the Ministry of Health Vice-Chancellery of Education and a university of medical sciences, acting as both host and organizer.

In the upcoming 25th conference scheduled for May 2024, a novel approach to teamwork and leveraging the capacities of universities outside Tehran will be implemented. Instead of a single university, one of the Macro regions will be entrusted with organizing this event. In this regard, Macro-Region One has been chosen for its readiness and potentials. Each university in this region will take specific responsibilities in partnership with the Medical Education Development Center (EDC) of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education for the successful execution of the 25th ICHPE Conference.
